"Walter James Harvey, Esq., is the School Board Attorney for Miami-Dade County, the fourth largest school district in the country. Prior to his appointment in June, 2009, Mr. Harvey was a shareholder/partner with two major, full-service law firms with more than 500 attorneys throughout the state of Florida. His practice has focused primarily in areas of commercial litigation, administrative law and government regulations. Before entering private practice, Mr. Harvey served as an Assistant Miami-Dade County Attorney.

Mr. Harvey, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, obtained his Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1995. He is Board Certified Specialist in Education Law (B.C.S.) and a Registered Parliamentarian (R.P.) with the National Association of Parliamentarians. Mr. Harvey is also an A/V rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell (its highest rating), and his legal accomplishments and abilities have been recognized by such publications as the Florida Super Lawyers and the South Florida Legal Guide Top Attorneys. He has been a featured speaker/lecturer at several Bar Association Conferences and law schools on topics concerning Constitutional law, Education and Administrative Law.

Mr. Harvey has also demonstrated a strong commitment to public service. He has served in various leadership capacities with voluntary bar associations, and has served on several committees related to federal and state court rules. Mr. Harvey currently serves on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Eleventh Circuit (Miami-Dade County), the 2017 Federal Bench and Bar Conference Committee for the Southern District of Florida, and has served on several United States Magistrate Selection Panels for the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida."
